Palm Sunday, the Passover Lamb, and the Prophetic Hour We’re In
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass...”
— Zechariah 9:9, KJV
Each year, Christians around the world celebrate Palm Sunday, waving branches and proclaiming “Hosanna!” But too often, we miss the prophetic depth behind this moment. The crowds who cheered for Jesus that day misunderstood why He came—just as many still do today.
The Misunderstood King
“On the next day much people... took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.”
— John 12:12–13, KJV
In ancient times, palm branches were laid down to celebrate military victories. The people saw Jesus through the lens of their earthly struggles—longing for a political liberator, not a spiritual Savior. They wanted Rome overthrown, not their hearts transformed. They missed the point.
Their cry of “Hosanna” meant “save us now,” but it came with a condition: Save us on our terms. Fix our external world. Do it our way.
But Jesus didn’t enter Jerusalem to crush Caesar.
He came to crush sin, defeat death, and redeem mankind.
Palm Sunday Was Also Lamb Selection Day
“Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
— John 1:29, KJV
What few realize is this: Jesus entered Jerusalem on the very day when Israelites were selecting their Passover lambs (Exodus 12:3). He was not just arriving as King—He was presenting Himself as the Lamb of God, to be slain for the sins of the world.
The parallels between Exodus 12 and Jesus’ crucifixion are staggering:
-
Exodus 12:5 – The lamb had to be male and without blemish.
> Jesus was the sinless Son of God (1 Peter 1:19). -
Exodus 12:6 – The lamb was inspected from the 10th to the 14th of Nissan.
> Jesus was examined, interrogated, and found without fault (Luke 23:4). -
Exodus 12:7 – The blood had to be applied.
> It is not enough that Jesus died; His blood must be personally applied through faith (Romans 5:9). -
Exodus 12:8 – The lamb had to be consumed.
> We don’t just believe in Jesus intellectually—we feed on Him spiritually (John 6:51). -
Exodus 12:10 – Nothing could remain.
> Jesus gave all. His sacrifice was complete. Nothing was held back (Philippians 2:8).
God Changed the Calendar for Redemption
“This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.”
— Exodus 12:2, KJV
When God instituted the Passover, He literally reset Israel’s calendar. Redemption became their new beginning. Likewise, when you come to Christ, you are born again. Your timeline resets. Old things pass away. A new creation begins (2 Corinthians 5:17).
From Egypt to Eternity: A Prophetic Parallel
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
— John 8:32, KJV
-
Egypt represents the world system, enslaved under the rule of Satan (2 Corinthians 4:4).
-
Pharaoh symbolizes the enemy who refuses to let God’s people go.
-
The Passover lamb points to Christ, whose blood delivers us from judgment.
-
The Red Sea crossing symbolizes baptism.
-
The wilderness is the Christian’s walk of sanctification.
-
The Promised Land symbolizes the inheritance awaiting all who endure to the end (Hebrews 10:36).
The Fire of Judgment Fell—On Him
“It pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief...”
— Isaiah 53:10, KJV
Just as the Passover lamb had to be roasted by fire (Exodus 12:9), so the fiery wrath of God was poured out on Jesus at the cross. He took our punishment. The judgment that we deserved, He absorbed.
For those who believe, that fire is quenched.
But for those who reject Him, wrath remains (John 3:36).
Prophecy in Progress: Red Heifers and the Third Temple
“Let no man deceive you... for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed...”
— 2 Thessalonians 2:3–4, KJV
As Jesus was being selected for crucifixion, today we are witnessing the prophetic preparation for the rise of the Antichrist. Three red heifers—required for ritual purification under the Old Covenant (Numbers 19)—have been born and brought to Israel. Their sacrifice will pave the way for the construction of the Third Temple, where Scripture says the man of sin will exalt himself as god (Daniel 9:27; Matthew 24:15).
The Temple Institute has publicly stated that their “Messiah” will prepare the final red heifer. But we know from Scripture, their Messiah will not be Christ—it will be the Antichrist (John 5:43).
This isn’t symbolic theory. It’s unfolding in real time.
Call to Repentance: Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late
“For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted... behold, now is the day of salvation.”
— 2 Corinthians 6:2, KJV
Jesus rode into Jerusalem knowing He would die.
He wasn’t deceived by the praise of the people—He was committed to the will of the Father.
Many cheered Him on Sunday but cried “Crucify Him” by Friday.
We do the same when we want Jesus as Savior, but not as Lord. When we want blessing, but not obedience. When we wave our palm branches, but hide our crosses.
He came once as a Lamb.
He is coming again as a Lion (Revelation 5:5).
A Clear Gospel Invitation
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
— Romans 10:9, KJV
If you’ve never surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, don’t delay.
Here is how to be saved:
-
Recognize you are a sinner – “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
-
Believe Jesus died and rose again for you – “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
-
Repent and confess Him as Lord – “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)
-
Receive the gift of eternal life – “The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
Final Exhortation
“Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump... For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.”
— 1 Corinthians 5:7, KJV
Jesus is not looking for fans. He’s calling disciples.
Don’t just wave a branch. Surrender your life.
