True Grace Teaches Us to Die Daily: A Call to Genuine Discipleship
"And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."
—Luke 9:23 (KJV)
In this generation, there is no shortage of those who identify themselves as Christians. They proclaim the name of Christ, they claim the promises of salvation, yet they reject the very cross He commands us to carry.
They are teachers of a counterfeit grace — one that denies the necessity of repentance, self-denial, and holy living. But Scripture offers no such doctrine. True grace teaches us to live differently, to die to the flesh daily, and to pursue Christ with endurance.
The True Purpose of Grace
Grace is often misunderstood as a license to sin freely without consequence. Yet the Bible clearly states:
"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world."
—Titus 2:11–12 (KJV)
Grace is not a free pass to indulge the flesh.
Grace is the divine empowerment to say no to sin.
Paul goes even further:
"For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live."
—Romans 8:13 (KJV)
The Spirit of God enables the true believer to put sin to death. And this battle — this daily dying — is not optional for the Christian. It is the path of life.
The Call to Daily Crucifixion
Jesus did not soften His call to discipleship. He made it clear that following Him means continual death to self:
"And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me."
—Matthew 10:38 (KJV)
The Christian life is a life of surrender. It is not a one-time prayer but a daily decision to crucify the flesh, pick up the cross, and walk in the Spirit.
Paul declared:
"I die daily."
—1 Corinthians 15:31 (KJV)
Anything less than this is not the Christianity Christ preached.
Modern Apostasy: False Teachers of "Easy Grace"
The Apostle Peter warned us:
"While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption."
—2 Peter 2:19 (KJV)
We see this warning fulfilled today. Many proclaim a gospel that demands nothing — no repentance, no self-denial, no holiness. They assure people that sin is inconsequential, thereby leading them to destruction.
But Jesus warned:
"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."
—Matthew 7:21 (KJV)
Lip service is not enough. Faith without works — without the evidence of repentance and obedience — is dead (James 2:17).
Encouragement for the True Remnant
To those who are daily putting to death the deeds of the body, who are striving against sin, who are carrying their crosses — take heart.
Paul exhorted:
"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."
—Galatians 6:9 (KJV)
Stay the course. Do not be discouraged by the growing apostasy.
Do not envy the ease of those who preach a costless Christianity.
Your labor in the Lord is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).
The narrow road is hard — but it leads to life (Matthew 7:14).
A Call to Repentance and Endurance
If you have embraced a gospel that excuses sin, repent today.
Come back to the true Gospel — the Gospel that saves and sanctifies.
-
Confess your sins.
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9, KJV) -
Believe upon Christ.
"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life." (John 3:36, KJV) -
Walk in newness of life.
"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead... even so we also should walk in newness of life." (Romans 6:4, KJV)
The Spirit will empower you. Grace will teach you. Christ will sustain you.
Final Charge
Keep fighting the good fight of faith.
Keep denying ungodliness.
Keep carrying your cross.
One day, we will exchange our cross for a crown.
"Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day."
—2 Timothy 4:8 (KJV)
Stay faithful, brethren.
