When Love for the World Replaces the Love of God

A Wake-Up Call from 1 John 2:15

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him."
—1 John 2:15 (KJV)

There are verses in Scripture that do not merely encourage — they confront.
1 John 2:15 is one such verse. It exposes spiritual deception not with a whisper, but with a thunderclap: “If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

This is not a gentle nudge — it is a sobering diagnostic.

Many today profess faith in Christ, even claim to walk with Him, yet remain deeply in love with the world. Entertainment, fashion, status, sexual sin, ambition, possessions — not only are these things pursued, they are celebrated.
But Scripture offers a stark and undeniable truth: you cannot be in love with the world and filled with the love of the Father at the same time.

A Testimony of Self-Deception

For years, I thought I had the love of God in me. I prayed. I attended church. I wore the Christian label with pride.
But deep down, I was still in love with the world — its rhythms, its culture, its comforts, its rewards.
I was, in a word, deceived. I had Christian language, but not a transformed heart.

Jesus said it plainly:

"This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me."
—Mark 7:6 (KJV)

It wasn’t until the Spirit of God opened my eyes — until I repented and surrendered my affections — that I understood how incompatible the love of the world is with the love of God.

The World’s System: Babylon in Disguise

This world system is not neutral. It is antichrist. It seeks to mold your mind, dull your discernment, and redirect your worship.
The Apostle Paul warns:

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind..."
—Romans 12:2 (KJV)

John goes on in 1 John 2:16 to describe what loving the world looks like:

"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."

These three forces — flesh, eyes, pride — drive advertising, entertainment, politics, social media, and so much more.
They did not come from God. They will not lead you to Him.
In fact, they war against your soul (1 Peter 2:11).

Living in Repentance, Not Perfection

Let me be clear: this is not a call to sinless perfection.
As John writes earlier:

"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."
—1 John 1:8 (KJV)

But there is a difference between struggling against sin and loving it.

There is a difference between repentance and tolerance.

God is calling His people in these last days to come out of Babylon — to sever their ties with the spirit of this world.
The question is not whether you still stumble. The question is whether your heart has truly changed.
Have your affections been redirected from earth to heaven? From temporal things to eternal truth?

A Prophetic Warning for the Church

Jesus warned in Matthew 24 that in the last days “because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” (Matthew 24:12, KJV)

Many will drift. Many will blend in. Many will believe they are saved — yet never truly repent.
We are watching the visible church grow increasingly worldly.
And yet, God is raising up a remnant — a people who are willing to be set apart.

"Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you."
—2 Corinthians 6:17 (KJV)

A Call to Repentance

If you see yourself in this message — if your heart has been convicted — this is not condemnation. It is grace.
It is the kindness of God that leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4).

Lay down your idols. Confess your love for the world.
Cry out to God for a heart that burns only for Him.

The Gospel Invitation

If you have never truly surrendered to Christ, or if you’ve walked away, this is your moment to turn back.

  • Admit that you are a sinner in need of a Savior (Romans 3:23).

  • Believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and rose again (Romans 10:9).

  • Confess Him as Lord and commit to follow Him by faith (Acts 2:38).

"Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
—Romans 10:13 (KJV)

Final Word

Let the cry of your heart be this:
"Lord, take this world from me. Give me more of You."

Because friendship with the world is enmity with God (James 4:4).
Let us no longer be deceived — but be transformed, separated, and set ablaze for Christ.
