The Hidden Hatred of Worldliness: A Call to True Love for God

“Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer:
and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.”

1 John 3:15, KJV

When Jesus and the apostles spoke of hatred, it wasn’t always the outward contempt we often imagine. In the spiritual realm, hatred is not simply a matter of what we feel—it’s a matter of who we reflect. And many professing Christians today, while claiming to love God, are unwittingly walking in hatred—not because of violent intentions, but because of spiritual compromise.

Hatred: More Than Emotion, It’s Separation

Jesus made it clear in Matthew 6:24, “No man can serve two masters...” To love the world system—its values, its priorities, its sin—is to “loveless” God. It’s not just passive neglect. It is spiritual betrayal.

“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God?
Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”

James 4:4, KJV

This form of hatred is not loud—it is lukewarm. It attends church, quotes verses, and claims the name of Jesus, but its heart is far from Him (Matthew 15:8).

Religious but Worldly: A Deadly Deception

In the days of Jesus, the most zealous religious leaders were also the most blind. They prayed publicly, tithed precisely, and followed tradition—but they did not know God (John 8:19).

Jesus rebuked them harshly:

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do...
He was a murderer from the beginning...”

John 8:44, KJV

Their spiritual pride pushed others away from God. And in doing so, they became spiritual murderers—guilty of leading others to death through false religion, dead works, and hypocritical living.

How Worldliness Murders

To live in such a way that draws people away from God—whether through compromise, false teaching, or unrepentant sin—is to be a stumbling block.

“But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me,
it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck,
and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”

Matthew 18:6, KJV

Our lives preach. If we claim Christ, but our conduct mirrors the world, we preach a gospel of hypocrisy. This is spiritual adultery. It turns hearts from God, even while quoting Scripture.

The Root of It All: Not Knowing God

Jesus said something shocking in Matthew 7:21–23:
Many who did religious works in His name will be rejected because they never truly knew Him.

“I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

This isn't about perfection. It’s about relationship, obedience, and holiness. To truly know God is to be transformed by His Spirit, walking not according to the flesh, but by the Spirit (Romans 8:1–9).

A Call to Repentance: From Adultery to Devotion

We must turn from the idolatry of comfort, the prostitution of compromise, and return to a life of holiness, repentance, and separation from the world.

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.
Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”

James 4:8, KJV

Let us no longer be spiritual murderers by living in a way that separates others from God. Let us walk in the fear of the Lord, in truth and sincerity, so that our lives draw others to the cross, not away from it.

The Gospel Message: Jesus Can Wash You Clean

If you find yourself convicted—if your life has reflected the world more than Christ—there is hope and forgiveness.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

1 John 1:9, KJV

Salvation is available to all who will:

  1. Acknowledge their sin (Romans 3:23)

  2. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ who died and rose again (Romans 10:9)

  3. Call on His name and follow Him in obedience (Romans 10:13)

Final Word: It’s Time to Return to Holy Love

We must love God not just in word, but in truth and action (1 John 3:18). This means putting away the world, embracing the cross, and living a life worthy of the name of Jesus.

“Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil;
cleave to that which is good.”

Romans 12:9, KJV
