Choosing Gratitude and Trust in the Unknown
It’s easy to lose sight of God in the middle of the day. Distractions pile up. Newsfeeds fuel frustration. Our own expectations weigh us down. But even in the chaos of the ordinary, God invites us to pause and remember He is still working, and we still have reasons to be thankful.
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
(1 Thessalonians 5:18, KJV)
Gratitude is not just good manners. It is spiritual warfare. It silences the voice of complaint and strengthens the voice of faith. When we thank God in all things not just the good, but the hard we align ourselves with His eternal perspective.
Perspective Matters: Someone Would Trade Places With You
The truth is, no matter how hard your day may be, someone else would love to be in your shoes. What you call routine, someone else sees as luxury. What you call a trial, someone else sees as a dream.
This is not to diminish real suffering, but to reorient your heart. It reminds us that things could always be worse and more importantly, that God is always doing more than we can see.
“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared
with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
(Romans 8:18, KJV)
When Things Don’t Go as Planned
Not everything in life will unfold the way we want. Prayers may be delayed. Doors may close. People may disappoint. But we must resist the urge to panic and instead lean into trust.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
(Proverbs 3:5–6, KJV)
Faith is not the absence of questions it is the presence of trust in the midst of them. God is always working, even when you cannot see it. He is not just present in the outcomes. He is sovereign in the process.
Why Worry About What’s Out of Your Control?
So much of our anxiety comes from trying to control what was never ours to hold. Jesus addressed this directly:
“Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?”
(Matthew 6:27, KJV)
He goes on to remind us that if God feeds the birds and clothes the lilies, how much more will He care for you, His child?
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.”
(Matthew 6:34, KJV)
The antidote to anxiety is not ignorance it is surrender.
A Call to Repentance
Perhaps today you’ve allowed frustration, fear, or ingratitude to dominate your spirit. You’ve been so focused on what’s lacking that you’ve missed what’s already been given. Let this be your turning point.
“Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings.”
(Jeremiah 3:22, KJV)
God is not ashamed of your weakness. He’s simply calling you back into alignment. Release what you cannot control. Repent of negative thinking. And rest in His providence.
The Gospel: The Source of True Peace
Peace and gratitude are not possible without reconciliation to God. You cannot trust the process if you are not walking with the One who authors it. That begins with the Gospel.
All have sinned.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23 (KJV)
Sin brings death.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 (KJV)
Jesus paid the price.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 (KJV)
Confess and believe.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead,
thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:9 (KJV)
Conclusion
So take this as your divine reminder:
You are still breathing.
God is still working.
And there is still so much to be thankful for.
Do not let the heat of the day steal your joy. Do not let the unpredictability of life steal your peace. Anchor yourself in the truth that God is in control, and He is closer than you think.
Walk forward with gratitude.
Live free from fear.
And keep pushing because you’re already blessed.
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
(1 Peter 5:7, KJV)
