The God Who Forgives: Why You Can Still Call Out Today

“For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.”
—Psalm 86:5 (KJV)

There is no sin too deep, no past too dark, and no wound too wide for the mercy of God. Psalm 86:5 speaks not just of divine goodness, but of readiness God is not reluctant to forgive, He is waiting for us to ask. His love is not limited to the worthy, but extended freely to all who call upon Him.

This truth is both timeless and urgently needed in our day. With violence increasing globally, hearts growing cold, and confusion reigning in every sphere of life from politics to identity we are witnessing firsthand what happens when people turn from God rather than to Him. And yet, the invitation still stands:
Call upon Him. He is good. He is forgiving. He is full of love.

The Urgency of the Hour and the Hope of Forgiveness

We live in prophetically significant times. The signs that Jesus described in Matthew 24 are unfolding with startling clarity: wars and rumors of wars, natural disasters, deception, betrayal, and increasing lawlessness. Our generation is being shaken, and many are waking up to the realization that they need something more than the world can offer.

That something is found only in Christ. And what does God require of us?

Not perfection.
Not performance.
But a humble cry that says, “God, I need You.”

“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.”
—Isaiah 55:6 (KJV)

There is a window of grace open now but it will not remain open forever.

The Nature of God: Goodness, Forgiveness, and Mercy

Psalm 86:5 reveals three key attributes of God that we must not overlook:

1. God is Good.

“O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.”
—Psalm 107:1 (KJV)

God’s goodness is foundational. It is not based on our goodness or effort, but on His unchanging character.

2. God is Ready to Forgive.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
—1 John 1:9 (KJV)

Readiness implies eagerness. He doesn’t wait with condemnation, but with compassion.

3. God is Plenteous in Mercy.

“The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.”
—Psalm 103:8 (KJV)

His mercy is not scarce. There is more than enough for your past, your present, and your future.

Forgiveness Is a Daily Surrender

Even after we are saved, we must continually come before the Lord in repentance and humility. Not because we fear losing His love, but because we value intimacy with Him. We fall short daily, and yet His mercy meets us again and again.

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
—Hebrews 4:16 (KJV)

Forgiveness is not about pretending we’ve done no wrong. It is about acknowledging our need, surrendering our pride, and receiving His grace.

A Call to Repentance

Do not wait for a better time. Do not wait until you “have it all together.” The Lord is near to the broken and contrite heart (Psalm 34:18). Whether you’ve been walking with God for years or feel completely lost, you can cry out today:

“God, forgive me. I need You.”

That is not weakness. That is wisdom. That is faith.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ

All have sinned.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
—Romans 3:23 (KJV)

Sin brings death.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
—Romans 6:23 (KJV)

Jesus paid the price.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
—Romans 5:8 (KJV)

Confess and believe.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
—Romans 10:9 (KJV)

Final Thoughts

No matter what kind of day you are having your worst or your best you still need God. And the beauty of the gospel is this: He is good, He is ready to forgive, and He is full of love. Not someday. Today.

Call out to Him.
He will hear.
He will forgive.
He will embrace you with mercy.

Will you call upon Him today?
