The Object of Your Search: What Are You Truly Seeking?
Every day, we wake up and reach for something. For some, it’s the comfort of coffee. For others, it’s the relief found in a cigarette or the numbness of alcohol. For many, it’s the glow of a screen or the rush of the next task. But let this truth cut through the noise:
What we seek is what we worship.
God’s Word confronts us with this principle in Psalm 105:4:
“Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore.”
(Psalm 105:4, KJV)
Worship isn’t just about music or church attendance. It’s about pursuit. It’s about what you give your time, attention, energy, and longing to. If the first thing we crave isn’t Christ, we must ask: who or what has taken the throne in our hearts?
Modern Idolatry: A Subtle Deception
We often think of idolatry as ancient statues or false gods carved of wood and stone. But in our generation, idolatry wears new clothes:
-
The endless scroll of social media
-
The pursuit of wealth or status
-
The dependence on substances to ease pain or boredom
-
The obsession with productivity over presence
These are not neutral. They shape what we worship. And God is not fooled by outward religiosity if our hearts are far from Him.
“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.”
(Matthew 15:8, KJV)
Seeking God’s Face, Not Just His Hand
There’s a critical distinction we must reclaim:
Do we seek God’s face or just His hand?
His hand represents what He can give. Provision. Healing. Favor. These are good and needed. But His face His presence, His person, His holiness is what transforms us.
Moses understood this when he said:
“If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.”
(Exodus 33:15, KJV)
Many want the blessings of God without intimacy with God. But real strength for the days ahead will not be found in material comforts. It will be found in the presence of the Almighty.
Jeremiah’s Promise: You Will Find Him
God has never hidden Himself from those who truly desire Him. Through the prophet Jeremiah, the Lord made a covenantal promise:
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
(Jeremiah 29:13, KJV)
This is not casual seeking. It is wholehearted. Desperate. Focused. God isn’t looking for perfect people. He is seeking hungry ones.
A Season Demanding Presence Over Performance
We live in days of great shaking economically, socially, spiritually. Systems are collapsing, truth is mocked, and hearts are growing cold. In this season, only those anchored in the presence of God will endure. The ones who know His voice. The ones who have wept at His feet. The ones who do not run after temporary comforts, but after eternal communion.
“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.”
(Psalm 42:1, KJV)
A Call to Repentance
If you've found yourself seeking lesser things comforts that leave you empty, distractions that dull your spirit repent. This is not a condemnation. It is a rescue. Return to the One who satisfies.
Lay down the idols. Turn off the noise. Seek His face.
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.”
(James 4:8, KJV)
God is not distant. He is waiting. He desires to be found. He longs to fill you with power, peace, and purpose but only if you come.
The Gospel: The Doorway to His Presence
The first step to true communion with God is salvation. You cannot seek His presence without first receiving His Spirit. And that begins with the Gospel.
All have sinned.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23 (KJV)
Sin brings death.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 (KJV)
Jesus paid the price.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 (KJV)
Confess and believe.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:9 (KJV)
Conclusion
You will seek something today. The question is—will it be Him?
The presence of God is not a concept. It is the eternal, glorious reality that changes everything. Let your first desire not be the temporary things of this world, but the eternal One who formed it.
Let it be said of your day: “I have truly sought the Lord. I have longed for His face, not just His favor.” For in seeking Him, we find everything we were made for.
“Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore.”
(Psalm 105:4, KJV)
