When the Fire Fades: Finding Strength to Keep Going When You Feel Like Quitting

Yesterday morning, I woke up feeling completely off. I had no motivation. My energy was gone. And as I stood outside with my wife, staring up at the clouds, I tried to piece myself back together. I tried to stir up some self-motivation, to remind myself why I do what I do sharing prayers, encouraging others, posting to my community, and interceding for loved ones.

Then, a thought crept in.

A quiet, tempting voice whispered, “Why don’t you take a break?”

That suggestion felt comforting for a split second, but deep down, I knew it wasn’t from God. It was the enemy subtle, cunning, and always lurking trying to snuff out the flame of purpose.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)

The Subtle Strategy of Discouragement

Spiritual attacks are not always loud or dramatic. Sometimes, they come through quiet exhaustion, emotional fog, and whispered lies. Satan’s tactics often aim to drain your drive rather than destroy your doctrine. His goal? Wear down the saints.

“And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High.”
Daniel 7:25a (KJV)

When you are doing the will of God, the enemy doesn’t always try to stop you with sin sometimes, he tries to stop you with weariness.

When the Message Hits You Right Where You Are

Right as I stood there, pondering whether I should pull back, God met me through the very thing I needed: the Word.

Our church message that day was exactly what I needed. The sermon focused on holding on to faith, refusing to give up hope, and persevering through the hard moments. That wasn’t a coincidence. That was confirmation.

“Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Galatians 6:9 (KJV)

God reminded me that perseverance is part of the calling. The days you feel like quitting are the days your spirit is being refined, tested, and strengthened.

When You're Pouring Into Others, Don’t Forget to Be Poured Into

Sometimes we get so caught up in pouring out serving, praying, posting, interceding that we forget we too need to be filled. It’s not selfish to need spiritual renewal. It’s necessary.

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

When you are spiritually dry, don’t run from God. Run to Him. He is your source.

God’s Timing Is Always Perfect

The beautiful part of this experience was the divine timing. Just as I considered stepping back, God stepped in. That is the faithfulness of our Lord. When you start to feel lost in the fog of doubt, He brings clarity. When your heart wants to give up, He sends a word to reignite the flame.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Psalm 119:105 (KJV)

God knows how to reach you right where you are, in the exact moment you need Him most. And He doesn’t just restore your motivation—He reminds you of your mission.

A Call to Repentance

If you’ve been feeling weary, distracted, or distant from God, this is not a time to retreat. It’s a time to return. Come back to your first love. The world is filled with voices trying to drown out the voice of God. But if you listen closely, you’ll hear Him calling you to repentance, to rest in Him, and to rise again with new strength.

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.”
James 4:8a (KJV)

The Gospel Message: Don’t Just Push Through Get Transformed

All have sinned.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23 (KJV)

Sin brings death.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 (KJV)

Jesus paid the price.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 (KJV)

Confess and believe.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:9 (KJV)

Conclusion: You’re Not Alone in the Battle

There will be mornings when motivation is absent, when the fire feels low, when your efforts feel unseen. But God sees. God strengthens. And God rewards faithfulness, even when it's messy and weak.

Keep going. Not because you feel like it, but because you’ve been called. Because the One who called you is faithful.

“Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
1 Thessalonians 5:24 (KJV)

You may be tired. But you’re not done. And in Christ, you are never alone.
