Discerning the Time: A Biblical Defense for Watching the Signs of Time
“Surely the Lord God will do nothing,
but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”
Amos 3:7 (KJV)
One of the most dangerous attitudes permeating the Church today is complacent ignorance a willful dismissal of the times we live in. Many cite “no man knows the day or the hour” as an excuse to shut down any serious discussion on Bible prophecy. But is that truly what Jesus taught? Are we forbidden from understanding the season of His return?
The answer is a resounding no. In fact, Scripture commands us to know the season, to watch, and to be ready. Let’s explore why expecting Christ’s soon return is not just biblical it’s vital.
The Misuse of "No Man Knows the Day or Hour"
“But of that day and hour knoweth no man,
no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”
Matthew 24:36 (KJV)
This verse has been weaponized against those who seek to understand prophetic timing. But context matters. Not knowing the exact hour does not mean we cannot know the season.
“Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky;
but can ye not discern the signs of the times?”
Matthew 16:3 (KJV)
Jesus rebuked the religious leaders of His day for failing to recognize the timing of His first coming. Why would He commend ignorance about His return?
“If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day,
the things which belong unto thy peace!
but now they are hid from thine eyes.”
Luke 19:42 (KJV)
They missed the specific day prophesied in Daniel 9:25–26, and judgment followed. Today, many in the Church are repeating the error of the Pharisees by refusing to do the work of understanding prophetic timing.
The Prophetic Pattern: God Reveals the Time
“For the Lord GOD will do nothing,
but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”
Amos 3:7 (KJV)
From Noah’s flood to the birth of Jesus, God has always given advance warning:
-
Noah was told judgment was coming in seven days (Genesis 7:4).
-
Daniel’s 70 Weeks prophecy gave Israel the exact year the Messiah would be “cut off” (Daniel 9:26).
-
The wise men knew the time of Jesus’ birth from watching the stars (Matthew 2:2).
Why would God change His pattern now?
“After Two Days He Will Revive Us” – Hosea’s Hidden Prophetic Code
“Come, and let us return unto the Lord:
for he hath torn, and he will heal us;
he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
After two days will he revive us:
in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.”
Hosea 6:1–2 (KJV)
In prophetic language, a day is as a thousand years:
“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing,
that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years,
and a thousand years as one day.”
2 Peter 3:8 (KJV)
If Christ was crucified in 32 AD, then two prophetic days (2,000 years) leads us to 2032 a possible marker for the Second Coming.
Back up seven years for the Tribulation, and you arrive at 2025.
Coincidence? Or divine pattern?
Modern Mockers and the Spirit of the Pharisees
“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers,
walking after their own lusts,
And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?”
2 Peter 3:3–4 (KJV)
Today, many mock those who search the Scriptures for understanding of prophetic timing. But this mockery sounds eerily similar to the Pharisees who missed the Messiah because they were too lazy to study the prophecies.
They wanted signs to confirm what they refused to believe by faith. So Jesus gave them the sign of Jonah a resurrected Savior they still rejected.
“This wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign...”
Matthew 16:4 (KJV)
Those who say “He cannot come on this date” are standing in spiritual arrogance, not biblical humility.
Feast of Trumpets and the Fall Timeline
The Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah) is a highly symbolic day tied to the Rapture:
-
It is known as “the day no man knows”, because it begins with the new moon.
-
It involves the blowing of trumpets, which aligns with:
“...the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16 (KJV)
Every year, watchmen rightly mark this feast as a high watch date. The Gospel of the Kingdom is being preached, the fig tree (Israel) is in bloom, and the world is preparing for Daniel’s 70th Week.
What About the Third Temple?
Many insist that the Third Temple must be built before the Rapture. But Scripture says otherwise. Yes, the temple exists during the Tribulation (Revelation 11:1–2), but there is no biblical requirement for it to be constructed before the Rapture.
The Rapture is imminent it can occur at any moment. Waiting for a specific sign before believing is a dangerous mindset that leads to complacency and blindness.
What Should Our Response Be?
“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come.”
Revelation 22:17 (KJV)
The Spirit of God is saying Come. The true Church is saying Come. If your response to prophecy is frustration instead of longing, you must ask: Why not me? Why am I not watching? Why do I mock what the apostles proclaimed?
You don’t need to run from people who say “Christ is coming.”
You need to run from those who say He’s not.
“Watch therefore, and pray always,
that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things
that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”
Luke 21:36 (KJV)
A Call to Repentance
God is not asking for perfect eschatology. He is asking for a ready heart. A burning lamp. A bride in love.
“Therefore be ye also ready:
for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
Matthew 24:44 (KJV)
Repent of spiritual laziness. Repent of pride. Return to the Word. Fall in love with His return again.
The Gospel: How to Be Ready
All have sinned.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23 (KJV)
Sin brings death.
“For the wages of sin is death;
but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 (KJV)
Jesus paid the price.
“But God commendeth his love toward us,
in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 (KJV)
Confess and believe.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead,
thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:9 (KJV)
Conclusion: Let No Man Take Your Crown
Do not let mockers steal your watchfulness.
Do not let theologians talk you out of intimacy with your Bridegroom.
Do not let the Pharisees dull your ears with “no one knows.”
“Hold that fast which thou hast,
that no man take thy crown.”
Revelation 3:11 (KJV)
Jesus is coming. Watch. Pray. Long.
Let the cry of your heart join with the Spirit and the Bride:
Come, Lord Jesus. Come.
