From Creation to Redemption
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
The opening words of Scripture are often read as a simple account of creation.
Yet within them lies a profound revelation.
Creation is not only about the origin of the world.
It is about the unveiling of Christ.
I. The Word in the Beginning: Christ as Creator
Scripture reveals that creation itself is centered in Christ.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1 (KJV)
“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:3 (KJV)
The Word is not an abstract idea.
The Word is a person.
Jesus Christ.
This means Genesis is not separate from the Gospel.
It is the foundation of it.
From the first verse, Christ is present as Creator, sustainer, and revealer.
II. The Trinity Revealed in Creation
Within the opening verses of Genesis, we see the presence of God in His fullness.
“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:2 (KJV)
God the Father speaks.
The Word, who is Christ, creates.
The Spirit of God moves.
This is not coincidence.
It is revelation.
Creation itself reflects the nature of God.
III. Darkness to Light: The Pattern of Redemption
Before light entered the world, there was darkness.
“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” Genesis 1:3 (KJV)
This is more than physical illumination.
It is a spiritual pattern.
Humanity begins in darkness.
“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord.” Ephesians 5:8 (KJV)
Christ is that light.
“In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” John 1:4 (KJV)
Just as light transformed creation, Christ transforms the human heart.
IV. The Condition of the Heart Before Christ
Genesis describes the earth as:
• Without form
• Void
• Covered in darkness
This mirrors the condition of humanity apart from God.
“Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God.” Ephesians 4:18 (KJV)
Without Christ:
• Identity is undefined
• Purpose is absent
• Direction is lost
Modern culture attempts to fill this void through:
• Achievement
• Relationships
• Pleasure
• Technology
Yet none of these can bring true light.
Only Christ can.
V. The Light That Changes Everything
When God spoke, everything changed.
Light entered.
Order followed.
Life began.
The same principle applies spiritually.
“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts.” 2 Corinthians 4:6 (KJV)
Salvation is not gradual improvement.
It is divine intervention.
It is the moment when light enters darkness.
VI. The Contrast Between God’s Order and the World’s Illusion
In creation, the pattern is clear.
Darkness precedes light.
“And the evening and the morning were the first day.” Genesis 1:5 (KJV)
God brings light out of darkness.
But the world offers a false pattern.
It presents what appears to be light first:
• Temporary pleasure
• Fleeting happiness
• Surface-level fulfillment
Yet it ultimately leads to darkness.
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 14:12 (KJV)
This is the deception of sin.
It promises light.
But delivers darkness.
VII. Christ in Suffering and Redemption
Throughout Scripture, the process of crushing often leads to life.
Christ Himself endured suffering to bring salvation.
“And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death.” Philippians 2:8 (KJV)
Through His suffering came redemption.
Through His death came life.
This pattern reflects the deeper truth of the Gospel.
Life comes through surrender.
Light comes through transformation.
Victory comes through Christ.
VIII. Modern Relevance: A World Searching for Light
Today, the world is filled with artificial light.
Information is abundant.
Entertainment is constant.
Distractions are endless.
Yet spiritual darkness remains.
Depression.
Anxiety.
Loneliness.
Confusion.
These are symptoms of a deeper issue.
The absence of true light.
“That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.” John 1:9 (KJV)
Christ is not one option among many.
He is the only source of true light.
A Call to Repentance
If life feels empty, formless, or dark, the answer is not found in the world.
It is found in Christ.
“Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.” Ephesians 5:14 (KJV)
Repentance is the turning away from darkness and the turning toward light.
It is the moment when the heart opens to the work of God.
Do not remain in darkness.
Come to the light.
The Gospel Invitation
All have sinned.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23 (KJV)
Sin brings death.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 (KJV)
Jesus paid the price.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 (KJV)
Confess and believe.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:9 (KJV)
Conclusion
Genesis is not just the story of creation.
It is the beginning of redemption.
From the first verse, Christ is present.
From the first act, light overcomes darkness.
The same God who spoke light into existence is calling you today.
Out of darkness.
Out of emptiness.
Out of confusion.
Into life.
Into truth.
Into Himself.
For the story of creation is ultimately the story of salvation.
And that story continues in every life that turns to Christ.
