Knowing the Truth
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God… that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (KJV)
There are powerful truths in what was shared.
But there are also areas that need clarity so that the Gospel remains sound, balanced, and biblical.
I. Repentance: More Than One Word, One Meaning
The idea of different “types” of repentance can be confusing.
Scripture gives clarity.
“Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of.” 2 Corinthians 7:10 (KJV)
True repentance (Greek: metanoia) means:
• A change of mind
• A turning of the heart
• A shift toward God
There is also false repentance:
• Regret without change
• Emotion without transformation
So yes, there is a difference but Scripture keeps it simple:
True repentance leads to life.
II. Hebrews 10:26 Must Be Understood Carefully
“For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins.” Hebrews 10:26 (KJV)
This does NOT mean:
• One mistake removes salvation
• Struggling believers are condemned
It is addressing:
A willful, continual rejection of Christ after knowing the truth.
Not daily struggles.
Not moments of weakness.
This is about rejecting the only sacrifice, Jesus Himself.
III. Temptation vs Agreement
It is true:
Jesus was tempted.
“For we have not an high priest… yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:15 (KJV)
Temptation is not sin.
But Scripture clarifies the process:
“When lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin.” James 1:15 (KJV)
The issue is not the thought appearing.
The issue is:
• Entertaining it
• Agreeing with it
• Acting on it
Believers are called to respond, not just ignore.
“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 (KJV)
IV. Identity in Christ: True but Not Misused
Believers are:
• Righteous in Christ
• Sanctified
• Set apart
“But ye are washed… sanctified… justified.” 1 Corinthians 6:11 (KJV)
But this does NOT mean:
• You no longer battle sin
• You no longer need repentance
• You can ignore conviction
Scripture keeps both truths:
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves.” 1 John 1:8 (KJV)
Identity is changed.
But growth continues.
V. The Danger of “Stop Thinking”
It was said:
“Stop thinking… don’t use logic.”
This is where correction is needed.
God does not call us to abandon understanding.
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord.” Isaiah 1:18 (KJV)
“Wisdom is the principal thing… get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7 (KJV)
Faith is not irrational.
It goes beyond full understanding but it is not against truth.
The danger is not thinking.
The danger is trusting your thoughts above God’s Word.
VI. Faith and Understanding Work Together
Faith does not eliminate understanding.
It anchors it.
“Through faith we understand…” Hebrews 11:3 (KJV)
Faith says:
• I trust what God has revealed
• Even when I don’t fully grasp everything
But Scripture never says:
Stop thinking entirely.
Instead:
Renew your mind.
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2 (KJV)
VII. The Role of the Word
The emphasis on Scripture is correct.
Jesus responded to temptation with:
“It is written.” Matthew 4:4
Without the Word:
• Discernment weakens
• Deception increases
• Confidence fades
But reading Scripture must be paired with:
• Right interpretation
• Humility
• Dependence on the Spirit
VIII. Grace Does Not Remove Responsibility
It is true:
All sins are paid for in Christ.
But Scripture also says:
“Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid.” Romans 6:1–2 (KJV)
Grace frees you from sin.
It does not encourage it.
A Call to Repentance
If you have been:
• Avoiding Scripture
• Misunderstanding grace
• Rejecting conviction
• Or relying only on feelings
The call is to return to truth.
Balanced truth.
Truth that includes:
• Grace
• Faith
• Repentance
• Growth
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17 (KJV)
The Gospel Invitation
All have sinned.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23 (KJV)
Sin brings death.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 (KJV)
Jesus paid the price.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 (KJV)
Confess and believe.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:9 (KJV)
Conclusion
Truth matters.
Balance matters.
You are:
• Righteous in Christ
• Yet still growing
You are:
• Free from condemnation
• Yet called to walk in truth
Faith is not blind.
It is trust grounded in God’s Word.
Do not shut off your mind.
Do not trust it above Scripture.
Let the Word shape both your thinking and your believing.
For when faith and truth meet, you walk in clarity not confusion.
