Righteous in Christ

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1 (KJV)

There is powerful truth in what you’re hearing.

But there is also an important correction that must be made.

Because clarity here protects the Gospel.

I. Justification: Declared Righteous in Christ

Scripture is clear.

When you believe in Christ, you are justified.

Declared righteous.

“Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works.” Romans 4:6 (KJV)

This means:

• Your sin is forgiven
• Christ’s righteousness is credited to you
• Your standing before God is secure

This is not earned.

It is given.

II. But Believers Still Acknowledge Sin

Here is where many go too far.

They say:

“I am no longer a sinner at all.”

But Scripture says:

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” 1 John 1:8 (KJV)

And even the apostle Paul said:

“This is a faithful saying… that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” 1 Timothy 1:15 (KJV)

Notice:

Not “I was.”
“I am.”

Why?

Because while identity is changed, the presence of sin is still real.

III. Identity Versus Condition

This is the key distinction.

In Christ, you are:

• Righteous in position
• Accepted before God
• A new creation

But in daily life, you still:

• Battle the flesh
• Face temptation
• Need ongoing repentance

“For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit.” Galatians 5:17 (KJV)

So both truths must be held:

You are righteous in Christ
You still need grace daily

IV. The Danger of Denying Sin

If someone says:

“I no longer sin at all.”

They risk:

• Ignoring conviction
• Hardening the heart
• Losing humility

Scripture calls believers to continual cleansing.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us.” 1 John 1:9 (KJV)

Confession is not rejection.

It is alignment with truth.

V. The Real Meaning of Repentance

Repentance is not just behavior change.

It is a change of mind and direction.

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted.” Acts 3:19 (KJV)

It is ongoing.

Not because salvation is fragile.

But because relationship is active.

VI. Thoughts, Temptation, and Responsibility

It is true:

Sin often begins in thoughts.

“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust.” James 1:14 (KJV)

But we must be careful.

Not every thought is from Satan.

And not every thought is uncontrollable.

You are called to respond.

“Bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV)

You are not powerless.

Through Christ, you have authority to resist.

VII. The Truth About Salvation

People are not condemned simply for “calling themselves sinners.”

They are condemned for rejecting Christ.

“He that believeth not is condemned already.” John 3:18 (KJV)

Salvation is not about perfect wording.

It is about true faith.

VIII. Confidence Without Pride

Yes, you can say:

“I am righteous in Christ.”

But it must come with humility.

Not denial.

“But by the grace of God I am what I am.” 1 Corinthians 15:10 (KJV)

This keeps:

• Confidence in Christ
• Humility in self

A Call to Repentance

If you have been:

• Trusting your own thoughts over Scripture
• Ignoring sin instead of confessing it
• Or relying on identity without transformation

The call is to return to balance.

Truth and grace together.

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17 (KJV)

The Gospel Invitation

All have sinned.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23 (KJV)

Sin brings death.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 (KJV)

Jesus paid the price.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 (KJV)

Confess and believe.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:9 (KJV)

Conclusion

You are not saved by denying sin.

You are saved by Christ.

In Him:

You are righteous
You are forgiven
You are made new

But you are also:

Growing
Learning
Being transformed

Hold both truths.

For when grace and truth meet, the Gospel remains whole.
