Trusting His Direction

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)

Many people know what it feels like to force something.

You plan.
You push.
You pray.

Yet nothing seems to flow.

Sometimes the problem is not lack of effort.

It is lack of alignment.

I. The Difference Between Consulting God and Following God

Many ask God to bless plans already decided.

But Scripture presents a different pattern.

“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:6 (KJV)

Notice:

God is not merely consulted.

He directs.

There is a difference between:

• Asking God to approve your way
• Surrendering to His way

One maintains control.

The other releases it.

II. Human Effort Without God’s Direction Leads to Frustration

Not everything that seems good is God-led.

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 14:12 (KJV)

Sometimes frustration comes because:

• The timing is wrong
• The motive is wrong
• Or God never initiated it at all

Effort alone cannot create peace.

III. Jesus Modeled Dependence

Even Jesus did not act independently.

“The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do.” John 5:19 (KJV)

This is remarkable.

If the Son walked in dependence on the Father, how much more should believers?

Jesus moved:

• Intentionally
• Prayerfully
• In alignment with the Father’s will

IV. Waiting Is Not Wasted

Modern culture treats waiting as weakness.

Scripture does not.

“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.” Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

Waiting is not inactivity.

It is surrendered trust.

It says:

• “I will not move ahead of God.”
• “I will not force what He has not confirmed.”

This requires humility.

V. The Burden of Self-Led Living

When you lead entirely in your own strength, you must sustain everything yourself.

This creates:

• Anxiety
• Pressure
• Exhaustion

But when God leads:

• He provides
• He sustains
• He guides

“Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.” Psalm 127:1 (KJV)

VI. Alignment Produces Peace

God’s direction does not always mean ease.

But it produces peace.

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts.” Colossians 3:15 (KJV)

Peace is often an indicator of alignment.

Not perfection.

Not absence of difficulty.

But confidence in God’s leading.

VII. Counting the Cost

Scripture encourages thoughtful surrender.

“For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost?” Luke 14:28 (KJV)

Faith is not reckless impulsiveness.

It is trusting obedience.

There is wisdom in pausing, praying, and discerning.

VIII. Modern Struggle: Moving Faster Than God

Today, speed is celebrated.

• Immediate success
• Constant movement
• Endless productivity

But spiritually, rushing can lead to misalignment.

Many struggle not because they refuse God.

But because they outrun Him.

This creates confusion and unnecessary burden.

IX. Surrender Before Strategy

Before plans are made, surrender must happen.

“Commit thy way unto the Lord.” Psalm 37:5 (KJV)

This changes the posture of the heart.

Instead of:

• “God, bless my plan.”

It becomes:

• “Lord, lead me in Yours.”

A Call to Repentance

If you have been striving in your own strength, the call is to pause.

Return to surrender.

Return to dependence.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10 (KJV)

Do not force what God has not established.

Wait on Him.

Trust Him.

Follow Him.

The Gospel Invitation

All have sinned.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23 (KJV)

Sin brings death.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 (KJV)

Jesus paid the price.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 (KJV)

Confess and believe.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:9 (KJV)

Conclusion

Not everything that is difficult means God is absent.

But not everything you build is God-led either.

The difference is alignment.

When you lead alone, you carry the burden alone.

When God leads, He sustains what He initiates.

So pause.

Surrender.

Seek His direction.

And trust that where He guides, He will also provide.
