A Call to Stay on Fire for God
There is a narrative circulating among seasoned believers—one that sounds innocent but can be spiritually deadly. You may hear it when your passion for Christ is obvious, your joy overflowing, and your zeal uncontainable. It goes something like this: “Yeah, I used to be like that... on fire, excited... but don’t worry, you’ll calm down eventually.”
Let’s be clear: that is not a sign of maturity. That is the language of lukewarmness.
“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.”
—Revelation 2:4 (KJV)
You Were Created to Burn Bright
If you are new to the faith—six months in, a year deep—hear this loud and clear: you were never meant to burn out. You were created to burn brighter.
“The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord...”
—Proverbs 20:27 (KJV)
God does not anoint you with His Spirit only to have you fizzle out over time. That fire inside you is not a phase. It is the evidence of the living God dwelling within you.
Jesus said:
“I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?”
—Luke 12:49 (KJV)
He came to ignite something in you, not extinguish it.
Don’t Let the Lukewarm Quench You
Some well-meaning believers may try to convince you that your spiritual passion is just emotional, just youthful, just temporary. But remember, Scripture does not commend lukewarmness. It condemns it.
“So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.”
—Revelation 3:16 (KJV)
That’s not a warning to unbelievers—it’s to the Church.
Guard the Flame
If you want to remain fervent in your walk with the Lord, you must guard the flame.
-
Feed yourself daily with the Word.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
—Psalm 119:105 (KJV) -
Pray without ceasing.
“Pray without ceasing.”
—1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV) -
Meditate on God’s promises.
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”
—Psalm 1:2 (KJV) -
Fast regularly.
Fasting disciplines the body, tunes the spirit, and rekindles holy desire. -
Watch what you consume.
Be mindful of what you watch, listen to, and dwell on. What you feed grows. -
Surround yourself with those who stir you.
“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”
—Proverbs 27:17 (KJV)
A Life Set Ablaze for the Glory of God
This world needs believers who haven’t “calmed down.” It needs men and women who walk with urgency, speak with conviction, and live like eternity is near—because it is.
“Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”
—Ephesians 5:14 (KJV)
Let your fire shine so bright that it stirs the slumbering and convicts the comfortable.
A Call to Repentance
If your flame has dimmed, now is the time to cry out:
“Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.”
—Psalm 51:12 (KJV)
God is merciful. He is able to reignite what you think is lost. Fan the flame. Return to your first love.
The Gospel Call
If you are reading this and have never fully surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, this fire can begin in you today.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
—Romans 3:23 (KJV)
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
—Romans 5:8 (KJV)
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
—Romans 10:9 (KJV)
Repent. Believe. Be saved. Be set ablaze.
“Quench not the Spirit.”
—1 Thessalonians 5:19 (KJV)
You were made for more than mellow. You were made to burn.
