Breaking the Lies of This World: A Call to Return to God’s Truth

"He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered."
Proverbs 28:26, KJV

We live in a culture that relentlessly preaches self-exaltation, self-worth, and self-worship. From social media to motivational platforms, the message is always the same: “Follow your heart,” “Speak your truth,” “Love yourself first,” and “You are enough.” But none of these messages reflect the wisdom of God. In fact, they oppose it.

As believers and seekers alike, we must discern the voices speaking into our hearts. Is it the voice of society—or the voice of the Shepherd? In this post, we will break down the most common cultural lies and confront them with God’s unchanging Word.

1. Lie: Follow Your Heart

Truth: The Heart Is Deceitful

The world teaches, “Follow your heart.” But Scripture tells a sobering truth:

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?"
Jeremiah 17:9, KJV

When we elevate our emotions as the compass for truth, we wander into dangerous terrain. God warns that our hearts, apart from Him, will lead us astray. Instead, we are called to trust the Lord completely:

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."
Proverbs 3:5, KJV

2. Lie: Love Yourself First

Truth: Love God First

Society insists that self-love is foundational. But Jesus gave a different order:

"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind... And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
Matthew 22:37–39, KJV

Until we receive the love of God, we cannot rightly love others or ourselves. His love redefines our worth and transforms how we relate to the world.

3. Lie: You Are Worthy

Truth: Only Christ Is Worthy

In a generation that teaches we are inherently worthy of all good things, the Bible reminds us of our fallen state:

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
Romans 3:23, KJV

"But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags..."
Isaiah 64:6, KJV

The only One truly worthy is Jesus Christ—the spotless Lamb, the King of Glory.

"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power..."
Revelation 4:11, KJV

4. Lie: You're Good Enough

Truth: We Are Broken Without God

The world praises imperfection as perfection. But Scripture calls us to acknowledge our brokenness and seek the healing power of God:

"There is none righteous, no, not one."
Romans 3:10, KJV

Jesus did not come for the perfect—He came for the broken who know they need a Savior (Mark 2:17).

5. Lie: Do You

Truth: Be Transformed

The world says, “Be your authentic self.” But God says:

"Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind..."
Romans 12:2, KJV

Following our natural selves leads to destruction. Following Christ leads to transformation.

6. Lie: Good People Go to Heaven

Truth: Only Through Jesus

Goodness cannot earn eternal life. Jesus alone is the Way:

"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
John 14:6, KJV

Salvation is not a reward for good behavior—it is a gift of grace received through faith and repentance.

7. Lie: Speak Your Truth

Truth: God’s Word Is Truth

The modern phrase “my truth” implies that truth is relative. But Scripture declares:

"Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever."
Psalm 119:160, KJV

Truth is not subjective. It is objective, eternal, and found in the Word of God.

8. Lie: Chase Success

Truth: Seek the Kingdom

Ambition apart from God leads to emptiness. Jesus instructed:

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
Matthew 6:33, KJV

When we chase success, we often forfeit peace. When we seek God, He gives us everything we truly need.

9. Lie: Forgive but Never Forget

Truth: God Forgives Completely

The world holds grudges, but God offers complete pardon:

"As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us."
Psalm 103:12, KJV

Those in Christ are fully forgiven and fully free.

10. The Root of the Lies: The God of This World

The pervasive lies in our culture originate from Satan—the deceiver:

"In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not..."
2 Corinthians 4:4, KJV

The enemy’s primary goal is to distract and destroy. His tools are pride, pleasure, and propaganda. But God has not left us defenseless.

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
James 4:7, KJV

A Powerful Call to Repentance

God is not seeking perfect people. He is calling for repentant ones.

"The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit."
Psalm 34:18, KJV

Turn away from the empty promises of the world. Reject the lies that masquerade as freedom. Let the Word of God be your standard. Repent today and find true life in Christ.

A Clear Gospel Message

  1. Acknowledge your sin
"For all have sinned..." (Romans 3:23)

  2. Understand the consequence
"The wages of sin is death..." (Romans 6:23)

  3. Believe in Christ
"But God commendeth his love... while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)

  4. Receive the gift of salvation
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus... thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9)

It is time to silence the noise of this world and amplify the truth of Scripture. You were not made for this world—you were made for the Kingdom. Return to the truth. Return to the cross. Return to Christ.
