Greater Than Silver and Gold: Rediscovering the True Treasure of Salvation
"Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk."
—Acts 3:6 (KJV)
As believers, it is easy to underestimate the infinite worth of what we carry within us. In a world obsessed with wealth, fame, and material security, Acts 3 reminds us that the greatest treasure we possess is not of this world.
When Peter and John entered the temple, they encountered a man who expected the ordinary — a coin, a morsel of charity. Instead, he received the extraordinary: healing in the powerful name of Jesus Christ.
Today, let us reflect on what we truly have as believers and why the world so desperately needs it.
Silver and Gold We May Not Have
The lame beggar, sitting by the temple gate called Beautiful, hoped for scraps to get by another day.
Peter’s response is stunning in its honesty:
"Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee."
—Acts 3:6 (KJV)
In human eyes, Peter and John appeared empty-handed.
But in the spiritual realm, they were filled with a power that no amount of money could purchase — the authority and anointing of Jesus Christ.
This stands in stark contrast to the modern pursuit of wealth and worldly gain.
How often are even Christians tempted to measure their value by their bank accounts or possessions?
Yet Scripture reminds us:
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven."
—Matthew 6:19-20 (KJV)
What We Have Is Priceless
Believer, do you know what you carry?
-
You have the Gospel, the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16).
-
You have the Holy Spirit, the seal of your inheritance (Ephesians 1:13-14).
-
You have the promise of eternal life, freely given through the blood of Christ (John 3:16).
Peter and John’s boldness was not rooted in possessions, but in identity.
They knew they were adopted children of God:
"According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love."
—Ephesians 1:4 (KJV)
Think on that for a moment: Before the foundation of the world, you were chosen.
Before you ever stumbled, before you ever sinned, before you even existed — God set His love upon you.
Are you excited yet?
Salvation: The Ultimate Treasure
Too often we lose our awe at the miracle of salvation.
We forget where we were headed — eternal separation from God.
We forget the price that was paid — the blood of the spotless Lamb.
We forget the transaction that took place — from death to life, from enemies to sons and daughters.
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
—Romans 5:8 (KJV)
This is no small thing. This is the greatest news the world has ever known.
A Prophetic Word for Today
In a world facing wars, pandemics, and economic upheavals, people are again looking for silver and gold — for temporary security.
But what they truly need is still what Peter and John offered: new life in Christ.
It is no accident that in these final days, the Lord is calling His people back to their first love.
The hour is late.
The idols of wealth and comfort are crumbling.
Only one foundation will stand:
"For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ."
—1 Corinthians 3:11 (KJV)
Let us not be ashamed of the Gospel.
Let us remember that what we offer is not less than the world’s treasures — it is infinitely more.
A Call to Repentance
If you have been chasing after silver and gold, return today to the One who is priceless.
If you have grown lukewarm toward your salvation, ask the Lord to rekindle your awe and gratitude.
"Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you."
—James 4:8 (KJV)
The door of grace is still open.
But soon, that door will shut.
The Gospel Invitation
If you have never surrendered your life to Christ, hear this invitation:
-
Recognize your sin:
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23, KJV) -
Believe in Jesus' sacrifice:
"Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, KJV) -
Call on Him:
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13, KJV)
Today is the day of salvation. Do not delay.
Final Encouragement
You may not have silver or gold in abundance, but if you have Jesus Christ, you have everything.
Let us rise up in boldness.
Let us offer the world what no money can buy.
Let us live in awe of the treasure we have been given — and share it with urgency.
"Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift."
—2 Corinthians 9:15 (KJV)
