The Unseen Cost of Sin: A Wake-Up Call to Eternal Justice
Every decision has a consequence. We understand this in terms of human law, where crime leads to punishment. But there exists a higher court, a supreme law above every nation’s judiciary—God’s moral law, the standard by which every soul will be judged.
“For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”
—Ecclesiastes 12:14 (KJV)
Before sin ever manifests in action, it begins in thought. Jesus made this clear when He said:
“But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”
—Matthew 5:28 (KJV)
This means no evil deed is ever isolated—it begins as a seed of intent. Every law broken externally was first violated internally. We do not merely sin against others—we sin against ourselves and, ultimately, against God.
The Law of God Is Supreme
“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul...”
—Psalm 19:7 (KJV)
Unlike earthly justice systems, which are flawed and often limited by evidence or corruption, God’s law sees all, knows all, and judges perfectly. While some criminals evade human courts, no one escapes divine justice.
“There is none righteous, no, not one... For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
—Romans 3:10, 23 (KJV)
Every sinful thought, careless word, and selfish action is recorded before heaven's throne. The problem is not just that people sin—it’s that people ignore or justify it, especially when they see others doing worse.
We mourn evil done to others, but we excuse the evil we do to ourselves: the bitterness we feed, the lies we entertain, the lust we indulge. But God sees both equally.
The Price of Sin Is Death
“For the wages of sin is death...”
—Romans 6:23 (KJV)
The word wages implies something earned. What sin earns is death—not just physical death, but eternal separation from God. Because God is holy, sin cannot be overlooked or excused. It must be paid for.
Judgment is Inevitable—but Redemption is Available
God’s justice is not like karma. Karma operates impersonally through cycles. God's justice is personal, intentional, and rooted in righteousness. And His standard is not “try your best” or “be better than most.” His standard is perfect holiness.
“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
—Matthew 5:48 (KJV)
This is why no one can be justified by their works. The Ten Commandments were not given as a checklist for salvation—but as a mirror to reveal our guilt.
“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.”
—Galatians 3:24 (KJV)
The law shows us our need. The Gospel shows us the Savior.
God’s Warning Is Not a Threat—It’s a Rescue
Many view God as angry and eager to destroy sinners. But this is a misunderstanding of His heart. His warnings are not threats—they are rescue beacons.
“Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live...”
—Ezekiel 33:11 (KJV)
God is not saying, “If you sin, I’ll destroy you.”
He is saying, “If you sin, you are already destroying yourself—and I want to save you.”
The Free Gift of Eternal Life
“But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
—Romans 6:23 (KJV)
The justice of God demanded a price for sin, and Jesus paid it. On the cross, He bore the wrath that you and I deserved. The righteous One died for the unrighteous, so we might live.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
—Romans 5:8 (KJV)
The Gospel is not advice—it is news. Christ has paid your debt. The verdict is guilty, but the sentence was served by the Savior.
An Urgent Call to Repentance
Do not delay. There is no such thing as getting away with sin. Every sin—big or small—will be judged. Either at the Cross, or at the Great White Throne.
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
—John 3:36 (KJV)
