Stop Waiting for the Word—Go Get It: From Secondhand Faith to Firsthand Fire
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”
— Psalm 1:2 (KJV)
God is good. He is not only at the center of the universe—He is at the center of everything we have going on. That means we’re not just surviving—we’re blessed. But knowing we’re blessed is only the beginning.
For many believers, the spiritual journey begins by listening to others—pastors, preachers, influencers, and ministries that feed us when we’re hungry and encourage us when we’re low. There’s nothing wrong with that—but at some point, we have to stop living on secondhand faith.
We have to go get the Word for ourselves.
From Spectator to Student: How My Journey Changed
When I first began walking with God, I never imagined I’d be the one sharing His Word. I assumed I’d always be the one receiving—waiting each week to hear what the Lord had told someone else.
I used to watch my favorite pastor religiously every Sunday, especially after being spiritually drained from a long week of work. It gave me strength. But what I didn’t realize was that I had settled into a spiritual rhythm that made me a consumer, not a disciple.
Then God stirred something deeper in me. It was no longer enough to hear someone else’s revelation. I needed to meet with God myself.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
— 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
We cannot live off the study life of someone else. Their sermons might inspire us, but they cannot sustain us.
Secondhand Fire Will Not Sustain Firsthand Battles
In a world full of trials, deception, and increasing spiritual warfare, you cannot afford to only feed your spirit on Sundays or through someone else’s highlight reel. The world is loud. The enemy is relentless. And spiritual warfare doesn’t wait for your favorite preacher to upload.
You need your own sword.
“And take... the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
— Ephesians 6:17 (KJV)
Your battles require a personal revelation of God’s truth—not just familiar phrases and inspirational quotes.
The Bible Is Not Decoration—It’s Deliverance
Let’s be honest. Many own Bibles. Fewer read them. Even fewer study them. But the Word of God is not a religious ornament. It’s your access to life, peace, correction, and power.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
— Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
You say you need direction? Then open the light. You say you're discouraged? Then feed your faith. You say the devil is messing with your mind? Then go get the sword.
No preacher, no prophet, no teacher can substitute what the Spirit will reveal when you seek Him directly in the Word.
You Won’t Find Joy in the Flesh—Only in the Word
There was a time when I thought success, music, money, and status would fulfill me. But I discovered what Scripture has always made clear:
“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
— Romans 8:6 (KJV)
The world offers pleasure. But pleasure without peace is just a distraction from your emptiness.
The more I consumed the Word, the more God transformed my mind. Not just emotionally, but deeply—replacing fleshly desires with a hunger for holiness, truth, and purpose.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind...”
— Romans 12:2 (KJV)
Prophetic Urgency: Stop Depending, Start Digging
We are living in prophetic times. Wars, technological advances, economic collapse, and moral decay are all increasing. And as Jesus said in Matthew 24, deception will be widespread.
You must stop relying on others to interpret the season. You must know the Word for yourself.
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...”
— Hosea 4:6 (KJV)
If you don’t read it, how will you recognize the counterfeit? If you don’t study it, how will you endure the shaking?
A Call to Repentance
Have you been treating the Bible as a backup plan? Have you substituted spiritual intimacy with Christian entertainment? It’s time to repent.
“Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.”
— Joel 2:12 (KJV)
Turn back. Pick up the Bible—not as a routine, but as a rescue. God is waiting to speak to you—not through a middleman, but through His Word.
The Gospel Message: It All Begins with Jesus
Before you can feast on the Word, you must first surrender to the Word made flesh—Jesus Christ.
-
Acknowledge your sin
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23 (KJV)
-
Understand the consequence
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” — Romans 6:23 (KJV)
-
Believe in Jesus Christ
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8 (KJV)
-
Confess and receive Him as Lord
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” — Romans 10:9 (KJV)
Conclusion: Go Get It
The Word of God isn’t just available—it’s alive.
The transformation you’ve been waiting for won’t come from YouTube—it’ll come from your time in the Word.
God isn’t just speaking to others. He’s waiting to speak to you.
So stop waiting. Go get it.
