Faithfulness In Small Things

“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.” Proverbs 6:6 (KJV)

When people think of wisdom, they often imagine kings, scholars, or great leaders.

Yet in Proverbs 6, God points us to something remarkably small:

An ant.

Why would God use an ant as an example of wisdom?

Because wisdom is not always found in impressive things.

Sometimes wisdom is found in simple faithfulness.

I. The Ant Does What It Was Created to Do

Ants are not powerful.

They are not admired for strength.

They are not known for influence.

Yet they faithfully accomplish the purpose for which they were created.

Day after day.

Without applause. Without recognition. Without excuses.

God calls this wisdom.

II. Laziness Is Not Only Physical

Laziness is not always physical.

Many people are busy while remaining spiritually inactive.

Spiritual laziness often sounds like:

• "I'll pray tomorrow."
• "I'll read Scripture later."
• "I'll deal with that sin eventually."
• "I'll obey God when the timing feels right."

The issue is not always inactivity.

The issue is delayed obedience.

III. Delayed Obedience Is Dangerous

Scripture repeatedly calls believers to respond when God speaks.

“Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” Hebrews 3:15 (KJV)

The longer obedience is postponed, the easier it becomes to justify continued delay.

Many people spend years intending to obey.

But intentions alone never produce transformation.

IV. Created for Good Works

Ephesians teaches:

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works.” Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)

Believers are not saved by good works.

But they are saved for good works.

God has given each believer opportunities to:

• Serve
• Love
• Encourage
• Share truth
• Glorify Him

Faithfulness means stepping into those opportunities.

V. Waiting for Motivation Is Often a Trap

Modern culture teaches people to act when they feel motivated.

Scripture teaches something different.

Many acts of obedience occur before feelings catch up.

A believer may not feel like:

• Praying
• Reading Scripture
• Forgiving
• Serving

Yet faithfulness acts anyway.

The ant does not wait for perfect conditions.

It simply continues its work.

VI. Small Steps Matter

One of Satan's most effective tactics is convincing people that small actions are insignificant.

But spiritual growth is often built through small, repeated decisions.

One prayer.

One chapter of Scripture.

One act of kindness.

One step of obedience.

Over time, these small acts create significant transformation.

VII. Faithfulness Over Flashiness

God values faithfulness more than appearance.

Many people desire dramatic spiritual experiences while neglecting daily obedience.

Yet Jesus said:

“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much.” Luke 16:10 (KJV)

Great spiritual maturity is often built through ordinary faithfulness.

VIII. The Danger of Living on Intentions

Good intentions are not the same as obedience.

Many believers intend to:

• Grow spiritually
• Share their faith
• Deepen their prayer life

But intentions without action eventually become excuses.

James warns:

“To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” James 4:17 (KJV)

Knowledge alone is not enough.

Action must follow.

IX. Consistency Produces Growth

The ant teaches consistency.

Not perfection.

Not speed.

Consistency.

Likewise, spiritual growth rarely occurs through occasional bursts of enthusiasm.

Growth comes through daily dependence on God.

“Walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:16 (KJV)

Walking is continual.

Step after step.

Day after day.

X. Jesus Is Our Ultimate Example

No one demonstrated faithfulness more perfectly than Christ.

Jesus consistently obeyed the Father.

Even when obedience led to suffering.

“Not my will, but thine, be done.” Luke 22:42 (KJV)

His faithfulness secured salvation for all who trust in Him.

A Call to Repentance

If you have been delaying obedience, stop waiting for the perfect moment.

Begin today.

Take the next faithful step God has placed before you.

Whether it is:

• Prayer
• Repentance
• Forgiveness
• Serving someone
• Reading Scripture

Start now.

“Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:16 (KJV)

The Gospel Invitation

All have sinned.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 (KJV)

Sin brings death.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23 (KJV)

Jesus paid the price.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (KJV)

Confess and believe.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9 (KJV)

Conclusion

The wisdom of the ant is simple.

Do what God created you to do.

Faithfully. Consistently. Without excuses.

Do not wait for perfect feelings.

Do not wait for ideal circumstances.

Take the next step of obedience today.

Because a life built on small faithful steps will accomplish far more than a life filled only with good intentions.
